Global workforce management startup Cercli raised $4 million led by San Francisco-based Afore Capital. The startup, launched in January 2024, seeks to become the “Rippling for MENA” (Middle East and North Africa).

Mercans Obtains Approval of Binding Corporate Rules

Global payroll company Mercans announced it has become the first company in its payroll technology sector to obtain Binding Corporate Rules (BCR). BCRs are data protection policies, procedures, and processes adhered to by multinational companies for transfers of personal data from within the EU to their entities located outside the EU. These rules ensure that any personal data processed by Mercans, no matter where it is located, is treated with the same level of security as it would be within the EU.

BCRs must be approved by the relevant data protection authorities in the EU, which involves a thorough and often lengthy assessment process. According to the company, as of this writing, only 184 companies worldwide have adopted BCRs. According to Mercans, it is the first company in its payroll technology sector to obtain BCRs.
